Trump Applauds UK North Sea Drilling, Criticizes Wind Turbines

London:US President Donald Trump has expressed his approval of the United Kingdom's decision to resume offshore energy extraction, urging British authorities to increase fossil fuel production in the North Sea.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Trump praised the UK for starting drilling in the North Sea, describing it as "one of the greatest and most prosperous areas of oil in the world." He encouraged London to proceed "full blast," suggesting that it would contribute significantly to making the UK "very wealthy again."

Trump's remarks come in response to an announcement by British Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh, who confirmed government consent for gas production at the Jackdaw field. The offshore development, located east of Scotland, is expected to begin supplying fuel by the end of October, following years of legal challenges from environmental groups that previously overturned regulatory consents.

The Jackdaw project was initially approved by the Conservatives in 2022, but faced a successful legal challenge from environmental campaigners, leading to a temporary halt. Trump has consistently opposed offshore wind turbines, especially those visible from his golf resort in Aberdeenshire, and has advocated for the exploitation of contested offshore reservoirs such as Jackdaw and Rosebank.
