Washington:Current and former Pentagon officials are reportedly gearing up to present damaging information about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to Congress if the Democrats take control of the House of Representatives in the upcoming November midterm elections.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Democratic lawmakers have started reaching out to potential whistleblowers as they prepare for a possible investigation into Hegseth's management at the Pentagon. The investigation might involve subpoenaing members of Hegseth's inner circle and revisiting past controversies, such as the 'Signalgate' incident where US military plans were accidentally leaked to a journalist via the Signal messaging app.
A source familiar with the situation mentioned that many individuals are expected to confidentially approach the chair of the armed services committee to provide and leak information. The source described the potential repercussions as continuously embarrassing for Hegseth.
A former senior administration official criticized Hegseth for damaging relationships through his actions, stating that his arrogance has led former allies to align with Democrats to hold him accountable for perceived damages to the military. Since taking office, Hegseth has overseen the removal or departure of several senior military and civilian officials, including former Army Chief of Staff Randy George and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff CQ Brown.
The Telegraph also highlighted that some Pentagon officials view Hegseth as a 'threat to national security,' while others simply hold a personal dislike for him. Notably, three members of Congress, including a Republican, have already introduced articles of impeachment against Hegseth.
A Pentagon source conveyed to The Telegraph that officials are willing to cooperate with Congress and provide insight into the alleged 'chaos' within the agency under Hegseth's leadership.
