Brasília:Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has announced his decision to request the country's top electoral authority to lift the banking and telephone secrecy on his records from the past eight years. This move is presented as a defense of his honor.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Lula has challenged his election rival Flavio Bolsonaro to adopt the same transparency measure. The filing submitted to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and the Supreme Federal Court includes a waiver that allows for the examination of bank, tax, and communication records related to Lula, first lady Janja, their five children, and associated companies. This disclosure is conditional upon Flavio Bolsonaro agreeing to a reciprocal measure.
Flavio Bolsonaro has yet to accept this challenge, which arises as the October 25 presidential runoff approaches. In the initial round of voting on October 4, neither Lula nor Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, achieved the 50% vote threshold necessary for an outright win.
