Saudi Arabia Postpones UN Data and Statistics Forums to 2027 Amid Houthi Conflict

Riyadh:Saudi Arabia has announced the postponement of the UN World Data Forum and the Saudi Statistics Forum, initially scheduled for November in Riyadh, to the year 2027.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the Saudi General Authority for Statistics made the decision in coordination with the United Nations Statistics Division, as stated on the social media platform X. The forums, which were to occur from November 9 to 12, will have their new dates announced through official channels at a later time.

The authority emphasized that the delay underscores its commitment to providing an experience that aligns with the expectations of the data and statistics community, allowing for widespread international participation by speakers, experts, and partners. This approach is intended to enhance the impact of the UN World Data Forum.

Despite the postponement, the authority assured that activities leading up to the UN forum, known as the Road to Riyadh, will proceed as planned. The delay comes amid intensifying hostilities between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi group since July, alongside renewed conflict between the Houthis and Yemen's internationally recognized government. Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition supporting Yemen's government against the Houthis since March 2015, while the group has maintained control over Yemen's capital, Sanaa, and other regions since September 2014.
