Austin:Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton has called for efforts to secure freedom for Palestine, Congo, Sudan, and Syria, expressing his hope for eventual peace in these regions.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Hamilton made these remarks during a news conference on Thursday ahead of the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. The British driver emphasized the need to advocate for the freedom of these nations, highlighting his hope for peace.
Hamilton discussed Formula 1's planned return to Africa and addressed concerns surrounding Rwanda, which is anticipated to host a Grand Prix on a newly constructed circuit in the early 2030s. He stressed that holding a race in Rwanda should not detract from awareness of events elsewhere in Africa.
The 41-year-old driver has been actively campaigning for Formula 1's comeback to Africa, engaging in numerous discussions with Formula 1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali and leaders from various African nations. He highlighted Africa's rich cultures, resources, and people, whose stories he believes deserve more international attention.
Hamilton also criticized the inadequate teaching of African history in British schools, pointing out the connection between the continent's current challenges and historical colonialism and Western intervention. He noted that African history should be included in the educational curriculum.
Formula 1 last hosted a race in Africa at South Africa's Kyalami circuit in 1993.
