Hebron:Israeli forces have reportedly raided 400 sites in the West Bank, detaining dozens of Palestinians in a significant military operation. The operation saw troops turning Palestinian homes into barracks and observation posts, particularly in the city of Hebron, where residents were forced to evacuate.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, the Israeli forces took control of homes in the Khallat Manna and Dahiyat al-Zaytoun areas of southern Hebron. These homes were used as military barracks, while others were converted into observation points, causing displacement of the residents.
The evictions and home seizures are part of a broader military strategy following the displacement of hundreds of families since Friday. The operation has included extensive raids, road closures, and movement restrictions. Near Bethlehem, Israeli forces obstructed roads leading to the town of Tuqu, deploying tear gas and stun grenades at Palestinian vehicles utilizing alternative routes.
The closures around Bethlehem have forced Palestinians to rely on unpaved roads for travel between communities. Additionally, Israeli forces shut down Hebron and nearby Halhul following an attack by two Palestinians on an Israeli checkpoint, resulting in the deaths of two Israeli soldiers and injuries to three others. Both attackers were killed by Israeli forces.
The ongoing military action is expected to last several days, involving searches, interrogations, and efforts to dismantle what is described as 'terrorist infrastructure.' The West Bank, including East Jerusalem, has witnessed increased military activity since the beginning of Israel's conflict in Gaza in October 2023, marked by violence against Palestinians and expansion of illegal settlements.
