Trump Considers Renewed Iran Strikes Amid US Military Buildup in Middle East

Washington:US President Donald Trump is contemplating renewed military strikes against Iran as the United States intensifies its military presence in the Middle East. This development comes as intelligence officials caution that Iranian plans targeting American personnel have advanced significantly, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Trump suggested the possibility of further military action during a rally in Florida, mentioning a potential operation described as 'little 'Epic Fury,'' reminiscent of previous US actions against Iran. The Pentagon has provided Trump with several options, which include targeting Iranian nuclear facilities and infrastructure, such as bridges, and conducting operations on Iranian-controlled islands. However, no definitive decision has been reached.

In conjunction with these deliberations, Washington is bolstering its military forces in the region. Two US aircraft carrier strike groups are currently stationed in the Middle East, with a third on its way from the Pacific. Additionally, an amphibious assault ship carrying Marines is being deployed to the area. This military buildup coincides with a warning from US intelligence chief Jay Clayton to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, indicating that Iran has intensified efforts to target American interests.

As a precautionary measure, the US has ordered the withdrawal of diplomatic and military personnel from certain locations due to growing security threats. The administration is evaluating its military strategy in light of the upcoming Nov. 3 midterm elections, recognizing that renewed strikes could provoke Iranian retaliation, endanger US forces, and potentially elevate global energy prices.
