Yemen’s Houthis Claim Missile and Drone Attacks on Riyadh Airport and Saudi Oil Pipeline

Riyadh:Yemen's Houthi group announced early Monday that they had launched attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and targeted pumping stations along Saudi Arabia's East-West crude oil pipeline.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree stated on the US social media platform X that the group used a ballistic missile to target the airport. He also mentioned that drone attacks were conducted against crude oil pumping stations along the East-West Pipeline.

Saudi Arabia's Civil Defense Directorate had previously issued a danger alert for Riyadh through the early warning system. Major General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition, confirmed that a Houthi ballistic missile aimed at Riyadh was intercepted.

Yemen has been in a state of civil war since the Houthis took control of the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces in September 2014. The East-West Pipeline, vital for Saudi Arabia's crude oil transportation, stretches about 1,200 kilometers from Abqaiq to Yanbu, providing an alternative route to the Red Sea.

The Saudi-led coalition has been backing Yemen's internationally recognized government since March 2015. Recent months have seen intensified clashes between Yemeni government forces and the Houthis, with the latter targeting Saudi Arabia using ballistic missiles and drones, holding the kingdom accountable for attacks against them.
