Pyongyang:North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has emphasized the need for military commanders to prepare their units for war. He stated that the "primary" task of the country's military commanders is to ensure their units are "fully ready" for combat, as reported by state media.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Kim made these remarks during a photo session with participants in the third meeting of Company Leaders of the Korean People's Army. The session took place a day prior to the report by KCNA.
Kim stressed that the revolutionary task for company leaders is to complete combat preparations, aiming for a significant improvement in their training programs. He urged military commanders to demonstrate their loyalty to the ruling Workers' Party and the revolution by achieving significant successes in transforming their companies into formidable units with strong revolutionary faith, patriotic spirit, heroic mettle, and fighting efficiency.
These statements from Kim come in the wake of heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula. An explosion last month inside the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), which separates North and South Korea, injured three South Korean soldiers. While Seoul has accused Pyongyang of responsibility for the incident and has called for a resumption of military communications to ease tensions, Pyongyang has denied the accusations and has not responded to the offer of talks. Both nations have submitted their accounts of the September 21 DMZ incident to the UN Security Council.
