Beirut:The Israeli army reported on Wednesday that it launched an interceptor targeting a suspected aerial threat detected near its forces in southern Lebanon. This action occurred amidst ongoing Israeli airstrikes and shelling throughout the region.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, the Israeli army stated on the social media platform X that no warning sirens were activated, adhering to its standard policy. The army did not provide further specifics regarding the aerial target or confirm if it had been successfully intercepted.
The announcement of the interceptor launch coincided with a series of Israeli attacks, as reported by Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA). Notably, Israeli warplanes conducted two consecutive strikes on Kfar Tebnit, with additional targets including the outskirts of Barashit and the Wadi al-Hujayr area. Furthermore, Israeli forces executed a demolition operation in the town of Deir Mimas.
In addition, NNA reported that two explosive-laden drones exploded above the town of Mansouri after flying at low altitudes over neighboring areas Qlayleh and Buyut al-Sayyad. Israeli aircraft were observed flying low over southern Lebanon, engaging in mock raids and deploying flares.
A US-sponsored agreement, signed on June 26, between Lebanon and Israel, outlines a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories in exchange for the Lebanese army's deployment and the disarmament of armed groups. However, despite this agreement, Israeli attacks have persisted, resulting in the deaths of at least 4,386 individuals and injuries to 12,407 others since March 2, alongside the displacement of more than 1 million people.
Israel maintains its occupation of various regions in southern Lebanon, some of which have been under control for decades, while others were seized during the 2023-2024 conflict. During the latest hostilities, Israeli forces advanced approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) into Lebanese territory.
