Ra'anana:Israeli opposition leaders Naftali Bennett and Gadi Eisenkot convened on Thursday to deliberate on forming a new government "as quickly as possible" after parliamentary elections resulted in a stalemate, leaving neither major political bloc with a majority, as reported by Ynet newspaper.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Bennett, a former prime minister and leader of the Together party, and Eisenkot, head of the Yashar party, held their discussions at Bennett's residence in Ra'anana. They issued a statement expressing their focus on establishing a competent government in Israel swiftly. However, it remains unclear if they reached an agreement on forming a coalition.
This meeting coincided with the Central Elections Committee's announcement of the completion of the special ballot count from Tuesday's parliamentary elections. Current results indicate that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's bloc obtained 53 seats, opposition parties secured 48, and Arab parties gained 19 seats in the 120-member Knesset. Neither Netanyahu's bloc nor the opposition parties achieved the 61 seats necessary for a parliamentary majority.
