Saudi-Led Coalition Intercepts Houthi Missiles Aimed at Riyadh

Riyadh:The Saudi-led coalition, which backs Yemen's internationally recognized government, announced that it successfully intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis towards the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki confirmed that the air defense systems were responsible for intercepting and destroying the missiles targeting Riyadh.

Earlier on Thursday, Saudi Arabia's Civil Defense issued emergency warnings in several areas, including Riyadh, the Al-Kharj governorate in central Saudi Arabia, and the southern city of Najran through the National Early Warning Platform. Shortly after, the agency declared that the threat had subsided and advised residents to adhere to safety instructions and refrain from gathering or filming.

The attack is part of ongoing Houthi missile and drone assaults against Saudi Arabia, linked to the ongoing conflict in Yemen. Since 2015, Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen's government against the Houthis, who have maintained control over the capital Sanaa and other regions since 2014.
