Houthi Ballistic Missile Targeting Eastern Saudi Arabia Intercepted by Coalition

Riyadh:Saudi air defenses successfully intercepted a ballistic missile launched by Yemen's Houthi group targeting the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, as reported by the Saudi-led coalition early Thursday.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki announced the successful interception on the US social media platform X. However, no further details were provided regarding casualties or potential damage caused by the missile.

Prior to the interception announcement, Saudi Civil Defense had issued an early warning alert in the Eastern Province due to an unspecified threat. The alert was later lifted for both the Eastern Province and Najran.

Additionally, on Wednesday, the coalition reported the interception and destruction of another Houthi ballistic missile aimed at the western Saudi city of Taif. Meanwhile, late Tuesday, debris from two intercepted Houthi ballistic missiles caused damage to a building, a construction project, and a vehicle in the capital city of Riyadh, as stated by Civil Defense. No casualties were reported in these incidents.

These interceptions occur amid rising tensions and hostilities between the Houthi group and the Saudi-led coalition, which backs Yemen's internationally recognized government. Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition against the Houthis since March 2015, following the group's takeover of Yemen's capital Sanaa and other regions in 2014.
