Netanyahu Bloc Falls Short in Israel’s 2026 Legislative Election

Jerusalem:The final results of Israel's 2026 legislative elections have been released by the Central Elections Committee, revealing a fragmented political landscape. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's bloc secured 53 seats, while the opposition bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot claimed 48 seats. Arab parties experienced significant gains, securing 19 seats in the Knesset.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, voter turnout reached 77.9%, marking the highest participation rate since 1999. The Netanyahu-led Likud party won 27 seats, a decrease from the 32 seats it held following the 2022 elections. Other parties within the pro-Netanyahu alliance, such as United Torah Judaism and Otzma Yehudit, each garnered seven seats, while Shas and Religious Zionism secured six seats each.

The opposition bloc saw the Yashar party, led by Gadi Eisenkot, win 21 seats. The Together alliance, consisting of former prime ministers Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid's parties, secured 12 seats, a noticeable drop from the 24 seats won by Yesh Atid alone in 2022. The Democrats doubled their representation to eight seats, while Yisrael Beiteinu increased its tally to seven seats.

Arab parties, including the Joint List and the United Arab List (Ra'am), achieved a combined 19 seats, significantly increasing their presence from the 10 seats won in 2022. Despite these gains, coalition talks are expected to be challenging, as most Jewish opposition parties have historically ruled out collaboration with Arab factions.

The official election results are set to be presented to President Isaac Herzog on November 4, after which party leaders will recommend a candidate to form the next government. The new Knesset is scheduled to be sworn in on November 10, as coalition negotiations continue. The election marked the first since Israel's military conflict in Gaza in October 2023, highlighting ongoing political and social challenges in the region.
