Taiz:Yemen Yemen's army announced that its forces have 'neutralized' nearly 500 Houthi fighters and field commanders during 1,272 operations conducted over the past 24 hours.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Army spokesman Majed al-Nuzaili stated that the operations resulted in the destruction or damage of 169 vehicles, pieces of equipment, and heavy weapons. However, the statement did not clarify how many of those neutralized were killed or wounded.
The operations, part of Operation Dawn of Yemen, targeted Houthi positions, reinforcements, fortifications, firing positions, and supply routes. These actions supported ground advances and the recapture of positions on the Al-Jawf front in northern Yemen. Government forces continue their operations in the Marib, Al-Bayda, Lahj, and Taiz provinces.
In Taiz, the Yemeni army, along with allied Popular Resistance fighters, engaged in battles against the Houthis with support from warplanes, drones, and artillery. Al-Nuzaili emphasized that forces are taking precautions to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure. Additionally, the army reported the downing of two Houthi drones and conducting airstrikes on the group's positions in the Al-Misrakh district, south of Taiz.
The Interior Ministry reported a Houthi drone strike on a home in western Taiz, resulting in the death of a woman and a girl and wounding another woman. Meanwhile, in al-Jawf, government forces secured the strategic Huwayshian mountain range, a forward defensive line for the Houthi-held provincial capital, al-Hazm.
Operation Dawn of Yemen, initiated on October 5 by Yemeni government forces, aims to restore state institutions from Houthi control and retake the capital, Sanaa. The military escalation between government forces and the Houthis resumed in July, leading to thousands of casualties and displacing over a quarter of a million people, as reported by the UN. This escalation ended a period of relative calm in Yemen since April 2022, as the humanitarian crisis has worsened amid ongoing fighting and displacement.
Yemen's conflict began in September 2014 when the Houthis seized Sanaa and several provinces, prompting a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government.
