Jerusalem:Israel's Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot stated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's efforts to undermine last week's parliamentary election results and push for another election have failed.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Eisenkot condemned the actions of Netanyahu and his Likud party, describing them as "despicable and malicious" in a post on the social media platform X. He asserted that the attempt to challenge the election results and manipulate public perception had not succeeded.
Eisenkot emphasized that the election results for the 26th Knesset were decisive and praised Justice Noam Sohlberg, Chairman of the Central Elections Committee, for affirming the integrity of the vote. He urged the public to disregard political maneuvers and affirmed that the election outcome showed the current government lacks a majority.
Netanyahu and the Likud party have accused Qatar of interfering in the elections by financially incentivizing Arab voter turnout to sway the results. They claimed to have evidence of bribes, though no such evidence has been publicly disclosed. Qatar has dismissed these allegations as a "disinformation campaign."
Mansour Abbas, leader of the United Arab List, also rejected claims of illicit foreign influence. Justice Sohlberg confirmed the proper conduct of voting and stated that any irregularities found would not affect the overall election integrity.
With the vote count complete, Netanyahu's bloc holds 53 seats in the 120-member Knesset, Eisenkot's opposition camp has 48 seats, and Arab parties possess 19 seats. The inability of either bloc to secure a majority leaves the formation of a new government reliant on coalition negotiations. Final official results will be presented to President Isaac Herzog for further consultations.
