Saudi-Led Coalition Intercepts Drones Over Riyadh Region

Riyadh:The Saudi-led coalition announced on Monday that it had intercepted and destroyed two drones over the Riyadh region in central Saudi Arabia. The coalition did not identify the party responsible for launching the drones.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki confirmed the interception in a post on the US social media platform X, stating, "Two drones intercepted and destroyed in the Riyadh region." Al-Maliki did not provide details on whether the incident resulted in any casualties or material damage.

Earlier on Monday, al-Maliki reported that air defenses had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi group towards Saudi Arabia's southern region. In response to earlier warnings in the cities of Abha and Najran and the governorates of Khamis Mushait and Taif, Saudi Civil Defense had issued an all-clear, though the nature of the threats prompting the alerts was not specified.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed responsibility for targeting Dammam airport in eastern Saudi Arabia with two separate drone attacks over the past 48 hours, which allegedly disrupted air traffic. Additionally, Saree stated in a post on X that the group had achieved a direct drone hit on an early-warning radar in Jazan and targeted a military transport aircraft at Jazan airport.

These events occur amid ongoing hostilities between the Houthi group and the Saudi-led coalition, which has been supporting Yemen's internationally recognized government since March 2015, following the Houthi takeover of Yemen's capital Sanaa in 2014.
