Washington:The US Department of Justice (DOJ) announced it will monitor voting in all 50 states for the first time during the upcoming midterm elections. This unprecedented move aims to ensure election integrity across the nation.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Civil Rights Division emphasized that election integrity is a top priority for the current administration. The DOJ plans to deploy its largest operation ever to ensure transparency in voting processes without discrimination.
Approximately 1,000 monitors and observers will be active on election day to ensure compliance with federal voting rights statutes. This operation will involve personnel from the Civil Rights Division, US attorneys' offices, and federal observers from the Office of Personnel Management. The monitors will work closely with state and local election officials to enforce laws such as the Voting Rights Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act, focusing on preventing voter intimidation or suppression based on race, color, national origin, or religion.
This comprehensive monitoring initiative coincides with an election where American voters will decide on all 435 seats in the US House of Representatives, 35 US Senate seats, and 36 governorships. Currently, Republicans hold control of both congressional chambers, while Democrats aim to gain majorities to counter President Donald Trump's legislative agenda.
