Al Jazeera Criticizes Targeted Killing of Journalist in Gaza

Gaza city: Qatar-based Al Jazeera television condemned the killing of its correspondent Mohammed Wishah in an Israeli attack in Gaza, describing the incident as a ‘deliberate and targeted crime.’

According to Anadolu Agency, Al Jazeera Media Network issued a statement on Wednesday, strongly condemning what it described as a heinous crime against its Al Jazeera Mubasher correspondent, Mohammed Wishah. The network emphasized that this act represents a blatant violation of international laws and norms, signaling a continued systematic policy of targeting journalists to silence them.

The statement further mentioned that as Al Jazeera mourns its correspondent, who had been with the network since 2018, it maintains that his killing was not random but rather a deliberate attempt to intimidate journalists and hinder their professional responsibilities.

Al Jazeera’s Ibrahim al-Khalili, reporting from Gaza City, noted that Wishah’s killing on a main road underscores the deteriorating situation in the region, amidst ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire.

The Gaza Government Media Office also released a statement, asserting that the killing of Wishah reflects a ‘systematic targeting and assassination’ of Palestinian journalists by Israel. They highlighted that the Israeli military has committed approximately 2,000 violations since the ceasefire began.
