Washington: US tech giant Apple announced an additional $100 billion investment package in domestic production, bringing its overall investment in the country to $600 billion over the next four years. The investments include a $2.5 billion commitment to produce all of the cover glass for the iPhone and Apple Watch at Corning's Harrodsburg, Kentucky, manufacturing facility. According to Anadolu Agency, Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized during the investment announcement at the White House that every new iPhone and Apple Watch will feature cover glass made in Kentucky. Cook highlighted that earlier this year, Apple committed $500 billion over four years to US investments, which is already yielding positive results. Cook mentioned the groundbreaking of a new factory in Houston for advanced AI servers, with the first test unit already produced. As part of the additional $100 billion commitment, Apple is launching its American Manufacturing Program to boost production of critical components in the US, having signed new agreements with 10 American companies. Apple is also working to establish an end-to-end silicon supply chain within the US, which includes design, equipment, wafer production, fabrication, and packaging. Cook noted Apple's pivotal role in bringing Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to Arizona, where they are producing millions of chips for Apple. This year, American manufacturers are projected to produce 19 billion chips for Apple across 24 factories in 12 states. Cook also announced Apple's commitment to purchasing American-made advanced rare earth magnets from MP Materials, which will expand their operations in Texas, California, and Kentucky. In addition to the American Manufacturing Program, Apple is investing in AI by expanding data center capacities in North Carolina, Nevada, Iowa, Arizona, and Oregon. The investment pledges follow the Trump administration's demands for Apple to move production to the US, with President Donald Trump threatening a 25% tariff on non-US manufactured i Phones.
