Riyadh:An Arab expatriate sustained injuries on Wednesday when debris from a Houthi ballistic missile, intercepted by Saudi defenses, fell in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The incident resulted in minor damage to a residential building and a vehicle, as confirmed by Saudi authorities.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Saudi Civil Defense reported that emergency teams swiftly responded to the situation involving the falling missile debris. The nationality of the injured victim has not been disclosed.
Earlier on Wednesday, Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki, spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition, announced the successful interception of the Houthi missile aimed at Riyadh. Witnesses in the area reported hearing four explosions following the alerts.
The incident is part of a broader pattern of missile and drone attacks Saudi Arabia has been facing amid escalating tensions with Yemen's Houthi group. Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government since 2015, following the Houthis' control of Sanaa and other provinces in 2014. The recent escalation began in July after a truce established in 2022 collapsed.
