Baku:Yemeni government forces have announced that 1,250 Houthi fighters were 'neutralized' during the ongoing 'Dawn of Yemen' military operation, which is being conducted on multiple fronts.
According to Anadolu Agency, Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman Majed Abdullah al-Nazili stated that government forces executed 2,309 targeted strikes using warplanes, drones, artillery, rocket launchers, and snipers. These operations reportedly disrupted Houthi defensive lines and command centers, allowing government forces to make significant advances.
Al-Nazili also reported the destruction or damage of over 460 military vehicles and pieces of equipment. The operation has been marked by continued airstrikes and ambushes in Taiz province, targeting Houthi forces and reinforcements.
In a related development, the Yemeni army captured five Houthi commanders, including Akram Amer, a senior commander with the rank of major general, though his rank has not been independently verified. The 5th Presidential Guard Brigade released a video of the captured commanders but did not detail the circumstances of their capture.
The 'Dawn of Yemen' operation, supported by a Saudi-led coalition, aims to reclaim Houthi-held areas, including Sanaa. The coalition has intensified air operations, with 100 fighter jets participating in one phase. The operation comes amid renewed conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, marked by cross-border missile and drone attacks.
Yemen has been in turmoil since the Houthis took control of Sanaa in 2014, prompting a Saudi-led coalition intervention in 2015 to support the Yemeni government.
