Yerevan: Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held a call Tuesday with EU High Representative Kaja Kallas to discuss efforts aimed at the consistent implementation of the bilateral strategic partnership. The two also discussed upcoming high-level visits and events, as well as initiatives to ensure continued tangible results.
According to Anadolu Agency, Mirzoyan and Kallas exchanged views on developments in the Middle East and possible avenues for resolving the situation. There was also mention of Russian President Vladimir Putin's remarks earlier in April, when he reassured Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the Kremlin about Moscow's calm stance concerning Armenia's development of relations with the EU. Nevertheless, Putin highlighted that Yerevan would not be able to belong to both the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the EU simultaneously.
In related developments, Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan stated that Yerevan might consider withdrawing from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the EAEU should Russia decide to increase gas prices for Armenia. However, Simonyan expressed confidence that such a scenario would not unfold, citing an effective conversation between the heads of state as a reassuring factor.
