Ankara:Turkish defense company Aselsan has signed agreements valued at $2.75 billion with Turkey's Secretariat of Defense Industries to procure hybrid air defense systems.
According to Anadolu Agency, these agreements surpass previous significant deals, including a £1.65 billion air defense agreement from September 2025 and a £1.47 billion agreement for additional production in July 2026. Aselsan disclosed that these new agreements are expected to positively impact its revenue.
The new business relationship is anticipated to start on October 5. Financially, the Secretariat of Defense Industries accounted for 30.6% of Aselsan's net sales and 37.8% of its trade receivables in the company's latest financial statements. However, Aselsan has not yet provided a delivery schedule or detailed information about the systems involved.
Aselsan's CEO, Ahmet Akyol, mentioned on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal that the ongoing production efforts are bolstering Turkey's Steel Dome air defense system, which is critical for national security. Akyol emphasized the importance of developing an independent defense industry in Turkey and highlighted the country's capability in creating its own air defense systems.
Steel Dome is Turkey's comprehensive air defense architecture that integrates radar, sensors, command-and-control systems, and weapons to manage and neutralize aerial threats at various ranges and altitudes. Its features include long-range air and missile defense, early warning systems, and capabilities to counter drones.
