Attempted Assassination of Senior Hamas Leader in Gaza Likely Unsuccessful

Gaza City:Gaza: An attempt to assassinate senior Hamas figure Ali al-Amoudi in an airstrike on Gaza City is believed to have likely failed, according to Israeli assessments.

According to Anadolu Agency, Israeli Army Radio reported on Saturday evening that the effort to kill al-Amoudi, a prominent leader in Hamas' political wing in Gaza, did not succeed. Israeli Channel 12 noted it was too early to confirm the outcome definitively, and Israel was still seeking confirmation of the assassination's success.

Earlier on Saturday, Israeli public broadcaster KAN indicated that the Israeli army had targeted al-Amoudi in a strike conducted overnight. Reports from Gaza suggested five fatalities, but al-Amoudi's name was not among them, leaving his fate uncertain.

Hamas sources informed Anadolu that al-Amoudi led the movement's media department and was part of its political bureau before the conflict began in October 2023. After the deaths of Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar and Rawhi Mushtaha in 2024, al-Amoudi became deputy to Khalil al-Hayya. When al-Hayya was elected head of Hamas' political bureau in July 2026, al-Amoudi took over as acting leader in Gaza.

A medical source reported that five Palestinians, including four women, two of whom were Christians, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a residential apartment in western Gaza City early Saturday. The victims were identified as Maysa Abu Daoud, her daughter Maria Abu Daoud, Yasmin al-Boubou, Halloum al-Boubou, and Bilal Ali Ouda. Six others were injured in the strike, which occurred amid ongoing Israeli violations of a ceasefire agreement in place since October 2025.

Gaza's Health Ministry reported 1,439 Palestinian deaths and 5,052 injuries from Israeli violations as of Thursday. Palestinian figures state that since October 2023, Israeli actions have resulted in the deaths of more than 74,000 Palestinians, injuries to over 175,000, and the destruction of about 90% of Gaza's infrastructure.
