Ankara:Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has emphasized the need for stronger economic and transport connections among Turkic states, citing their strategic geographical position and significant energy resources as avenues for increasing their influence in global trade and energy security.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Bayramov addressed the 13th summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Ankara, highlighting the development of the Middle Corridor and expanded transport links between member countries as key strategies for boosting their collective economic potential. He stressed that these opportunities should be leveraged not only for transit transport but also to foster mutual trade, industrial cooperation, and investment.
Bayramov noted that cooperation in energy, digital connectivity, and emerging technologies among OTS member states had reached a new phase, with Azerbaijan playing a pivotal role in establishing green energy and digital links between Central Asia and Europe. He also mentioned the OTS+ format as a means of expanding ties with third countries and international organizations and called for continued efforts to secure observer status for the OTS at the UN General Assembly.
Reflecting on Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the organization since its 12th summit in Gabala last year, Bayramov stated that regional peace and security had been central priorities. He pointed out that recent global developments underscored their importance amid escalating international tensions, with Azerbaijan serving as a zone of stability and security in the region.
During his speech, Bayramov also addressed the normalization efforts with neighboring Armenia, following the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty, which resolved a long-standing conflict in the South Caucasus. He expressed expectations for Armenia to take necessary steps toward signing a peace treaty and reiterated Baku's commitment to establishing a lasting peace in the region.
Lastly, Bayramov extended his gratitude to Türkiye for hosting the summit, congratulated the Turkish people on the country's 103rd Republic Day, and wished Türkiye success as it assumes the OTS chairmanship from Azerbaijan.
