Sanaa: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Wednesday marked the 10th anniversary of the July 15, 2016, failed coup attempt in Turkey in a letter to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In the letter, published by Azerbaijan's presidency, Aliyev honored the memory of those who sacrificed their lives during the coup attempt and expressed condolences to their families and the Turkish people.
According to Anadolu Agency, Aliyev reflected on the events of ten years ago, describing it as a significant chapter in Turkey's modern history. He noted that the coup was repelled due to the Turkish people's determination and loyalty. Aliyev praised the leadership of Erdogan and the unity of the Turkish people, which he said prevented great tragedies on that fateful night.
Aliyev emphasized that Turkey emerged stronger under Erdogan's leadership, showcasing its national will and statehood traditions. He remarked that the events proved the strength of unity between the people and the state. Democracy and National Unity Day, he said, symbolizes Turkish national solidarity and the will for freedom.
Further, Aliyev highlighted the solidarity between Azerbaijan and Turkey, underscoring the principle of 'one nation, two states.' He expressed confidence in the continued strengthening of their friendship and strategic alliance, envisioning a future enriched with joint efforts.
Aliyev concluded by wishing Erdogan good health and success, and extended his well-wishes for peace and prosperity to Turkey.
