Tel aviv: Far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has vowed to support former Israeli soldier Rom Braslavski’s request to personally execute Palestinian prisoners if they are condemned under Israel’s new death penalty law. This promise was made during Braslavski’s podcast interview on Saturday evening.

According to Anadolu Agency, the interaction between Ben-Gvir and Braslavski highlighted the minister’s commitment to enabling the former captive’s participation in executions. Braslavski, who was held captive in Gaza, expressed his desire to be actively involved in carrying out death sentences. “I don’t want a rope; I want a button on a gun. With my own hands, I will execute every terrorist in the State of Israel,” Braslavski stated, to which Ben-Gvir responded affirmatively, promising to do everything in his power to make it happen.

Ben-Gvir confirmed that the method of execution under the new law would be hanging, and he emphasized Braslavski’s suitability to perform these executions. He assured Braslavski of his support and expressed hope that this aspiration would be fulfilled.

The interview also touched upon the changes in detention conditions for Palestinian prisoners since Ben-Gvir assumed office in late 2022. He criticized the previous conditions, which included amenities such as jam, chocolate, television, table tennis, and meat. Ben-Gvir claimed that the current state of detention is far harsher, reflecting his satisfaction with the prisoners’ suffering as a form of justice for victims like Braslavski.

In March 2026, the Israeli Knesset enacted legislation introduced by Ben-Gvir’s Jewish Power party, mandating death by hanging for Palestinians convicted of killing Israelis if military courts deem the act as terrorism or motivated by the denial of Israel’s existence. This move, along with the tightened detention conditions, has drawn attention from rights organizations concerned about the treatment of Palestinian prisoners under the current administration.
