Phnom Penh: In the third reshuffle since taking office last year in August, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet appointed Prak Sokhonn as the new foreign minister on Wednesday. This decision follows an unanimous vote by all 112 lawmakers, as revealed by the premier on the social media platform X. Sokhonn, 70, previously held the ministerial position from 2016 to 2023 and will now succeed Sok Chenda Sophea, who will continue to serve as deputy prime minister. According to Anadolu Agency, the reshuffle aims to enhance the effectiveness of Cambodia's foreign policy implementation. Hun Manet addressed the parliament ahead of the vote, emphasizing the importance of maintaining and enhancing traditional relations, solidarity, and multi-sectoral cooperation with countries and key partners for mutual benefits. He further stated that Cambodia will engage more actively with the international community in efforts to promote peace and stability, as well as to tackle global challenges.
