Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated Wednesday that the cessation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon was a condition set by Tehran for the ceasefire agreement reached with the United States.

According to Anadolu Agency, Pezeshkian made these remarks during a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron. He highlighted that stopping Israeli strikes on Lebanon was one of the ten conditions attached to the agreement with Washington.

Pezeshkian emphasized France’s significant role as one of the guarantors of the previous ceasefire in Lebanon. The Iranian president underscored that Tehran had acted responsibly by accepting the ceasefire proposal, demonstrating its willingness to achieve peace and stability in the region.

The conversation between the two leaders took place a day after the announcement of a ceasefire by the United States and Iran. This agreement aims to pave the way for a final resolution to the conflict initiated by Washington and Tel Aviv against Tehran on February 28.

Despite the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli army conducted extensive airstrikes across Lebanon on Wednesday, resulting in at least 254 fatalities and 1,165 injuries, as reported by the Lebanese Civil Defense. While Iranian and Pakistani officials affirmed that the agreement included Lebanon, Israel maintained that Lebanon was not part of the ceasefire.
