Beijing: China has expressed criticism over a US-drafted UN Security Council resolution, stating that it does not adequately address Palestinian governance or the two-state solution. The resolution, which was adopted by the council, authorizes a Board of Peace and an International Stabilization Force in Gaza.

According to Anadolu Agency, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning voiced concerns during a news conference in Beijing, highlighting ambiguities in the resolution's approach to post-war arrangements in Gaza. She emphasized that the resolution does not align with China's consistent position on key principles concerning Palestinian governance and the two-state solution. Consequently, China did not support the resolution.

Beijing advocates for the UN Security Council to take necessary actions to promote a ceasefire, de-escalate the humanitarian crisis, and initiate reconstruction efforts. Mao Ning stated that China will continue to engage constructively and support the Palestinian people's efforts to regain their legitimate rights, working towards a just and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue.

In a statement following the vote, China's UN Envoy Fu Cong reiterated concerns about the draft resolution, pointing out its vagueness on critical issues such as the scope and structure of the International Stabilization Force. Both China and Russia chose to abstain from the vote.

The US-drafted resolution was part of a broader initiative, stemming from an Israel-Hamas ceasefire and hostage swap agreement effective in the Gaza Strip as of October 10. This agreement, based on a 20-point plan by President Donald Trump, includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and envisions the reconstruction of Gaza with a new governance mechanism excluding Hamas.

Since October 2023, the conflict has resulted in the deaths of over 69,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, and left more than 170,700 injured, marking a devastating toll on the enclave.
