Beijing: China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi has emphasized that any future arrangements concerning the Gaza Strip should prioritize Palestinian governance. During a meeting in Beijing with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, Wang asserted that post-conflict arrangements must adhere to the principle of "the Palestinians governing Palestine" and support the two-state solution as the only pathway to achieving lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
According to Anadolu Agency, Wang Yi elaborated on China's commitment to uphold justice on the international stage and to support the restoration of Palestinian rights while promoting the two-state solution. He highlighted China's policy of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs, focusing instead on common development and shared prosperity through Chinese-Arab cooperation.
Wang emphasized that China is the "most reliable partner" for Arab countries, supporting them in overcoming external interference and pursuing development paths suited to their national conditions. This partnership, according to Wang, is crucial for achieving unity, self-reliance, and regional peace and stability.
Ahmed Aboul-Gheit expressed the importance of China-Arab League relations and the Arab League's appreciation for China's fairness and justice regarding the Palestinian issue. He noted a willingness to explore broader prospects for future cooperation with China, acknowledging the constructive role China plays.
The discussions occurred amid the backdrop of the 11th China-Arab Civilization Dialogue in Beijing, attended by 150 representatives from 22 Arab countries and the League of Arab States, as reported by the state-run China Daily.
In recent developments, the UN Security Council adopted a US-drafted resolution establishing a transitional Board of Peace (BoP) and authorizing an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to oversee governance, reconstruction, and security efforts in Gaza. The resolution, which passed with 13 votes, saw abstentions from Russia and China, and authorizes the ISF and the BoP until December 31, 2027.
Since October 2023, the conflict has resulted in the death of nearly 69,500 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, and left more than 170,700 wounded, as the war has devastated much of the Gaza enclave.
