Beijing: China and India are exploring opportunities for mutual development, as emphasized by China's Foreign Minister during a recent meeting with Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The dialogue took place against the backdrop of Doval's visit to Beijing for the 20th meeting of the security council secretaries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
According to Anadolu Agency, the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, highlighted the "important consensus" that China and India should not view each other as threats but as partners. This sentiment was shared during discussions with Doval, who also acts as the special representative on the China-India boundary question. This meeting marked Doval's first visit to China since New Delhi's recent hostilities with Pakistan, suggesting a thaw in China-India relations post-tensions in the disputed Jammu and Kashmir region.
Wang Yi underscored the importance of good-neighborliness and friendship, advocating for a mutually beneficial relationship while addressing sensitive issues diplomatically. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Lin Jian, conveyed Wang's message of maintaining peace and tranquility in border areas. Meanwhile, a statement from New Delhi acknowledged the review of bilateral ties and emphasized the promotion of overall development, including fostering stronger people-to-people connections.
Doval stressed the importance of countering terrorism to ensure peace and stability in the region. The discussions also covered various regional and global topics of mutual interest. The meeting coincided with the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, allowing at least 750 Indian pilgrims to visit Tibet in southern China after a five-year pause due to the pandemic.
In addition, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is set to visit China for the SCO defense chiefs summit in Qingdao, further signifying the commitment to enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations.
