China Labels South Korea’s Political Crisis a ‘Domestic Affair’.

Beijing: China on Wednesday refrained from reacting to the simmering political crisis in South Korea triggered by a failed martial law attempt, calling it a "domestic matter." "China noted relevant events and will not comment on the ROK's (Republic of Korea) domestic affairs. China has asked its nationals in the ROK to take extra safety precautions," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian told reporters in Beijing. "We hope the ROK will take effective measures to protect the safety and security of Chinese nationals and institutions in the ROK," he added. China's position on the Korean Peninsula issue remains unchanged, he added. According to Anadolu Agency, the political crisis in South Korea escalated when President Yoon declared martial law late Tuesday, accusing the main opposition party of sympathizing with North Korea and engaging in anti-state activities. The declaration of martial law was swiftly overturned by the South Korean parliament, preventing further escalation of tensions within the country. China's stance on non-interference in what it considers internal matters of other nations aligns with its broader diplomatic policy, especially concerning issues on the Korean Peninsula. The emphasis on the safety of Chinese nationals indicates China's cautious approach in dealing with regional instability while maintaining its established foreign policy principles. The situation in South Korea remains fluid, with potential implications for regional security dynamics. Observers continue to watch how the political landscape will unfold in the coming days amid concerns over national stability and international relations in the region.
