Johannesburg: China has announced its continued efforts to address and rectify the historical injustices faced by Palestine, as stated in a recent announcement on Friday. The commitment was reiterated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during discussions with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud at the G20 summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
According to Anadolu Agency, Wang Yi emphasized China's steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, highlighting the issue as central to the broader Middle East conflict. He assured that China would maintain its solidarity with Arab nations in striving for a just resolution and the restoration of lasting peace in the region. This statement comes amid a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, following a conflict that resulted in significant casualties and destruction.
The situation remains tense as the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to their actions in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice concerning its military actions in the enclave.
Saudi Arabia, through its Foreign Minister Faisal, expressed opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and commended China's principled stance on the Palestinian-Israeli issue. Faisal conveyed confidence in China's ability to continue contributing positively to peace efforts in the Middle East.
Wang Yi also acknowledged Saudi Arabia's proactive role in mediating regional conflicts and expressed satisfaction with Riyadh's constructive engagement, notably referencing Saudi-hosted negotiations between the US and Russia aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
