Vatican City: Pope Francis' condition continues to be 'critical' after a 'prolonged asthma-like respiratory crisis' he experienced earlier Saturday, said the Vatican on Saturday evening, adding that the pope is not 'out of danger.'

According to Anadolu Agency, the Vatican reported that the pope's respiratory issues necessitated the administration of high-flow oxygen to stabilize his condition. The statement further detailed that Pope Francis is also suffering from thrombocytopenia, which is associated with anemia.

The Vatican described the pope's condition as 'more uncomfortable than yesterday,' indicating a concerning development in his health situation. The official statement concluded with a note that the prognosis remains reserved, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding Pope Francis' recovery.
