Abu dhabi: China on Friday signaled its support for the first trilateral meeting between Russia, the US, and Ukraine, set to take place in the UAE. This significant development marks a new chapter in diplomatic efforts to address the ongoing Ukraine crisis.

According to Anadolu Agency, China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun emphasized that China's stance on the Ukraine crisis remains consistent, advocating for dialogue and negotiation as the only viable resolution. This statement was made during a press briefing in Beijing, highlighting China's diplomatic approach amid the ongoing conflict.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, announced the upcoming tripartite meeting. The talks, which will take place in Abu Dhabi on Friday and Saturday, are unprecedented since the conflict began in February 2022. This meeting was confirmed by Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov.

A White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, also confirmed to Anadolu that the talks would indeed occur in the UAE's capital. This development signals a potential shift in the diplomatic landscape, with the involved parties exploring avenues for peace.

Zelenskyy further revealed that Kyiv and Washington had reached an agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire with Russia, although this agreement has yet to be signed. This development underscores the complex nature of the negotiations and the importance of international support in achieving a lasting resolution.

China has consistently refrained from condemning Russia's military actions in Ukraine, instead calling for respect for the territorial integrity of all nations. In a related diplomatic initiative, China, along with Brazil, has launched the 'Group of Friends of Peace' aimed at promoting a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis. This group seeks to foster dialogue and cooperation among nations to bring about a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
