Beijing: A day after Beijing and Washington agreed to extend a 90-day tariff truce, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday emphasized the importance of expanding channels of communication and consultation with the United States.

According to Anadolu Agency, Wang Yi hosted a delegation from the board of directors of the US-China Business Council (USCBC) in Beijing. In a statement released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang assured that China's policy toward the US would remain 'consistent and stable.' He stressed that the bilateral ties should be governed by principles of 'mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.'

During the meeting, Wang Yi called for the establishment of more communication channels between the two nations. He urged both sides to approach each other with an 'objective, rational, and pragmatic attitude,' and to develop a correct strategic understanding. Wang highlighted the necessity of respecting each other's key interests, avoiding confrontation and conflict, and rejecting 'unilateralism and hegemony.'

Attending the meeting were notable figures such as USCBC board chairman Mark Riesberg, Otis Worldwide chair Judy Marks, Boeing executive Steve Nelson, and Apple Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan. The gathering followed an agreement between Chinese and US officials to extend the tariff truce beyond its original Aug. 12 deadline.

This understanding was achieved after two days of discussions in Sweden, led by Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Wang's call for enhanced dialogue coincides with efforts to stabilize and improve US-China relations amid ongoing trade tensions.
