Beijing: China's President Xi Jinping urged Myanmar's leader, Min Aung Hlaing, to identify a development strategy that garners widespread approval during their meeting in Beijing. The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, emphasized the importance of aligning Myanmar's national policies with the needs of its populace. According to Anadolu Agency, President Xi reiterated China's commitment to fostering strong diplomatic relations with Myanmar. During their discussions, Xi emphasized the significance of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor as a pivotal project under China's Belt and Road Initiative. He highlighted that this initiative should not only bolster Myanmar's economy but also enhance the welfare of its citizens. Xi assured Min of China's steadfast support in safeguarding Myanmar's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Min Aung Hlaing, who has led Myanmar since overthrowing a civilian government in 2021, arrived in China on Monday for a five-day state visit. This visit marks his first to China since b eing elected as a civilian president in April after years of military leadership. During his visit, Min is scheduled to meet with other top Chinese officials, including Premier Li Qiang and senior lawmaker Zhao Leji, as both nations seek to deepen their political and economic ties. Earlier this month, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Myanmar's Foreign Minister Tin Maung Swe, underscoring the ongoing diplomatic engagements between the two countries. China remains Myanmar's largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching approximately $19.4 billion last year. The two countries share a lengthy border and have maintained robust economic relations, particularly in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and cross-border trade. Min's visit to China follows his recent trip to India, marking his first overseas venture since assuming the presidency, and reflects Myanmar's strategic efforts to strengthen ties with key regional partners.
