Beijing: China's President Xi Jinping on Wednesday engaged in consecutive discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.

According to Anadolu Agency, Xi's conversation with Trump took place over the phone, as reported by Xinhua News. Details of the discussion between Xi and Trump have not yet been disclosed by Beijing. This phone conversation followed a virtual meeting between Xi and Putin earlier in the day.

The discussions with Putin and Trump marked the first such interactions for Xi with both leaders this year. The timing of Xi's conversations is notable, occurring amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran and ongoing efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. These diplomatic engagements coincide with the commencement of the second phase of trilateral talks involving Kyiv, Moscow, and Washington, which began in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.

During the videoconference with Putin, Xi emphasized the responsibility of China and Russia as major global powers and permanent members of the UN Security Council. He highlighted the need to uphold fairness, justice, and the outcomes of World War II, while safeguarding the UN-centered international system and maintaining global strategic stability. The conversation underscored the strengthening ties between China and Russia, which saw a trade volume of around $200 billion last year. In contrast, relations between Beijing and Washington have shown signs of stabilization since Xi and Trump met in South Korea late last year.
