Cairo: Trkiye and Egypt are jointly working on initiatives aimed at fostering peace in Gaza and ensuring stability in Libya, as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced during a press conference with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan emphasized Trkiye's collaboration with Egypt to facilitate peace in Gaza, underscoring the ongoing commitment to these diplomatic efforts. He highlighted that both nations share the objective of preserving Libya's unity and territorial integrity to achieve lasting stability in the region.

Erdogan noted Egypt's status as Trkiye's largest trade partner in Africa and expressed the intention to elevate the bilateral trade volume from the current $8-9 billion to $15 billion. He also mentioned Trkiye's desire to deepen cooperation with Egypt in maritime trade, transportation, freedom of navigation, and maritime security.

Addressing regional issues, Erdogan stated Trkiye's opposition to Israel's recognition of Somaliland, stressing the importance of protecting Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Regarding Sudan, he expressed Trkiye's desire for a ceasefire and sustainable peace in the country.

Erdogan also commented on the tensions between Washington and Tehran, advocating for diplomatic solutions to resolve issues with Iran, including the nuclear matter. On Syria, he reiterated Trkiye's support for significant transformations that would benefit from Syria's territorial integrity and political unity.

Despite a ceasefire in Gaza, Erdogan noted that the humanitarian crisis persists and lauded Egypt's efforts to ensure that humanitarian aid from Trkiye reaches Palestinians in Gaza.
