Kuala lumpur: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday confirmed that Chinese Premier Li Qiang, along with leaders and representatives from the US, Japan, Europe, the Middle East, Russia, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, will attend the 47th summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

According to Anadolu Agency, the ASEAN summit is scheduled to take place from October 26 to October 28 in Kuala Lumpur. The event is expected to see the participation of US President Donald Trump, who will witness a peace accord signing between Cambodia and Thailand. Additionally, the summit will host the chiefs of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as well as other representatives from global organizations.

While many global leaders are set to attend, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Myanmar's acting President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing will be absent from the event. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate virtually, expressing his enthusiasm on a social media platform for further strengthening the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The ASEAN summit will not only focus on internal meetings but will also facilitate bloc-level summits with key dialogue partners such as the US, China, and Japan. ASEAN, founded in Bangkok on August 8, 1967, currently comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Timor-Leste, or East Timor, is set to join as the 11th member during the Kuala Lumpur summit.
