Cyprus, Greece, Jordan FMs agree it is urgent to reach truce in Middle East

It is urgent to prevent the crisis in the Middle East from further escalating, to reach a sustainable ceasefire and to limit the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, the Foreign Ministers of Cyprus Constantinos Kombos, Greece George Gerapetritis and Jordan Ayman Al Safadi agreed, during a trilateral meeting in New York. The next trilateral Greece-Cyprus-Jordan Summit will take place on November 11, 2024 in Cyprus. According to diplomatic sources, the main topics discussed by the three Foreign Ministers were the further strengthening of trilateral cooperation and regional developments. The same sources say that the Ministers of Foreign Affairs expressed their strong concern about the escalation of the crisis in the Middle East which, has now extended from Gaza and Israel to the Red Sea, the West Bank and Lebanon. They add that the three Ministers agreed that what is urgent now is to prevent the crisis from spreading further, achieve a sustainable ceasefire and contain the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. For this reason, alternative ways of channeling necessary humanitarian aid to the region were discussed. During the meeting, as the diplomatic sources note, the three Foreign Ministers confirmed their commitment to respecting International Law and the basic principles of the Charter of the United Nations and agreed to intensify their cooperation in the fields of economic and trade cooperation.
