Beijing:Novak Djokovic secured his seventh China Open title when Alex de Minaur retired due to injury during the final. Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz successfully defended his Japan Open title with a straight-sets win over Jiri Lehecka.
According to Anadolu Agency, Djokovic won the first set 7-6(3) in a closely contested match in Beijing. Australia's De Minaur, after receiving medical treatment for his left thigh, could not continue past the first game of the second set, resulting in a victory for the 39-year-old Serbian.
The win maintained Djokovic's unbeaten record at the China Open, now standing at 34-0, and marked his seventh triumph at this tournament in as many appearances. This victory was Djokovic's first title of 2026 and his 102nd career tour-level trophy, placing him just one behind Roger Federer and seven short of Jimmy Connors' record of 109. Djokovic has also achieved the feat of winning at least one tour-level singles title in 21 consecutive seasons.
In Tokyo, Carlos Alcaraz took the Japan Open title by defeating Czech Republic's Jiri Lehecka 7-6(4), 6-4. The Spaniard overcame an early break to level the first set at 3-3, eventually winning the tiebreak. He then broke decisively in the second set's seventh game and served out the match to secure his second consecutive Japan Open victory.
This triumph was Alcaraz's first since returning from a right wrist injury that kept him out for about four-and-a-half months. The 23-year-old's win in Tokyo marked his 27th career title and third of 2026, following victories at the Australian Open and Qatar Open earlier in the year.
