Ankara: Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa in Cairo to deliberate on an early recovery and reconstruction plan for Gaza. This plan is set to be presented at the forthcoming emergency Arab summit scheduled for Tuesday.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Egyptian government released a statement detailing the meeting between Madbouly and Mustafa at the Prime Minister's headquarters. The discussions focused on key aspects of the reconstruction plan for Gaza. Madbouly emphasized Egypt's commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and their rights, specifically the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The statement highlighted that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has directed the Egyptian government to prepare a comprehensive plan for Gaza's early recovery and reconstruction. This plan aims to ensure that Palestinian citizens remain in the Strip during the rebuilding process. Madbouly also underscored Egypt's relentless efforts in supporting the Palestinian cause, including mediation for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement and facilitating Gaza's reconstruction.
Palestinian Prime Minister Mustafa expressed gratitude for Egypt's unwavering support for the Palestinian people. Meanwhile, the statement also addressed a controversial proposal by US President Donald Trump to 'take over' Gaza and transform it into a tourist destination, which has been widely rejected by the Arab world and other nations as it is perceived as ethnic cleansing.
Moreover, Egypt is formulating a comprehensive Arab initiative for Gaza's reconstruction that does not involve displacing its residents, as any forced migration could undermine the Palestinian cause. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its actions in the enclave.
