Zelenskyy’s UK Visit Follows Tense White House Encounter with Trump

London: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's plane touched down in the UK on Saturday, British media reported. The arrival at Stansted Airport came after a dramatic encounter with US President Donald Trump at the White House, an event that attracted global media attention, as reported by Sky News.

According to Anadolu Agency, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to meet with Zelenskyy at Downing Street this afternoon. Additionally, Starmer plans to host a meeting of European leaders on Sunday to strategize on a potential Ukraine peace agreement, emphasizing the necessity of US involvement in any such accord.

The recent discord between Trump and Zelenskyy has cast doubts on achieving a unified stance between European nations and the US regarding Ukraine's future. This visit followed a heated exchange involving Zelenskyy, Trump, and US Vice President JD Vance, where Zelenskyy defended his management of the ongoing conflict with Russia. The public altercation led to Zelenskyy's departure from the White House and the cancellation of a planned signing ceremony and news conference.

Starmer announced a high-level leaders summit in London, expressing anticipation for the participation of Trkiye's Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, in the talks. Fidan is expected to discuss key issues of the Russia-Ukraine war, including a new negotiation initiative proposed by Trump. Additionally, he will reiterate Trkiye's commitment to supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty and outline the country's potential contributions to the peace process.

Fidan is also likely to emphasize Ankara's ongoing role as a mediator, reflecting its involvement in the direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in March 2022.
