Daegu: A fire erupted Tuesday while an electric vehicle (EV) was being charged in an underground parking lot of an apartment building in South Korea's North Gyeongsang province, according to media reports. The fire in Daegu was extinguished after two and a half hours.

According to Anadolu Agency, there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, but the incident has sparked safety concerns. This event follows a previous incident last August when an unplugged electric Mercedes-Benz sedan caught fire in an underground parking lot in Incheon, western Seoul. That fire injured 23 people, led to the evacuation of over 700 residents, and caused water and power outages, damaging 140 cars.

Authorities in South Korea are evaluating measures to address the risk of fire while charging EVs, as these incidents highlight potential safety issues associated with electric vehicles in enclosed spaces such as underground parking lots.
