Elon Musk Highlights Financial Strain of Operating Grok Bot

San Francisco:Elon Musk stated that the cost of operating xAI's Grok chatbot has become 'unsustainably high' in comparison to the revenue it generates, pointing to financial pressures on the artificial intelligence business as demand continues to grow.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Musk made these comments on the U.S. social media platform X in response to a user query about the possibility of resetting xAI's Grok Bot service's weekly usage allowance. The user noted that many subscribers had exhausted their Grok Bot usage allowance more quickly than usual during the week.

Musk did not disclose specific figures regarding the operating costs or revenue of Grok Bot, nor did he indicate whether there would be changes or resets to the usage limits.

xAI launched Grok Bot in early beta in August, positioning it as an AI agent capable of executing tasks across apps and online services using its own virtual computer. Unlike conventional chatbots, Grok Bot can perform multi-step tasks and continue operations in the background.

The service is offered through several paid subscription plans, SuperGrok and Cursor, with usage allowances allocated separately from users' other Grok and Cursor services.
