Moscow:Russia has expressed "deep concern" regarding reports of potential new military action against Iran.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, described the situation involving Iran as "complex," citing what she referred to as unprovoked aggression by the United States and Israel. She emphasized the unresolved nature of the conflict and its connections to other crises in the Middle East.
Zakharova underscored the importance of diplomatic efforts to stabilize the situation, expressing support for mediators engaged in negotiations. She affirmed Moscow's readiness to help find mutually agreeable solutions and assist in their implementation.
Additionally, Zakharova expressed hope for a return to normalcy in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the need to consider the legitimate interests of littoral states and other nations using the area for global trade. She highlighted that Iran is currently facing an unlawful maritime blockade by the United States.
Tensions have remained elevated in the Middle East since the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, leading to Iranian retaliation in the region. Despite a memorandum signed by Washington and Tehran in June, challenges persist regarding security and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
