EU Expands Sanctions Against Russia with Over 1,600 New Blacklist Entries

Ankara:EU member states have agreed to add more than 1,600 individuals and organizations to their sanctions blacklist in response to Russia's war in Ukraine. This decision was reached by EU ambassadors and is set to include 743 people and 826 entities allegedly supporting the war.

According to Anadolu Agency, The sanctions also target an additional 77 lawmakers who participated in September's State Duma election in Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine. These individuals and entities will face asset freezes and travel bans, while EU citizens and businesses are prohibited from providing them with financial resources.

The agreement, which follows extensive negotiations and legal examinations, is expected to receive formal approval from EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg on Monday. The move comes amid concerns over suspected hybrid attacks attributed to Russia, as well as a drone incident at Leipzig airport in Germany.

This expansion will bring the total number of entries on the EU's Russia-related sanctions list to nearly 4,650.
